Regarding the Wildfires and Air Quality

October 15, 2017

Hello Mt. Diablo Families and Staff,

I want to let you know that we will resume school on Monday, October 16, 2017, at our regular time.  We appreciate your patience and flexibility during our days with poor air quality.  We are also grateful for our first-responders and those who were closely impacted by the fires.

Mt. Diablo Unified will continue to monitor air quality as we decide upon appropriate school day and extracurricular activities with a focus on safety and health.

Thank you,

Dr. Nellie Meyer, Superintendent

Dear Mt. Diablo Unified Families,

Mt. Diablo Unified School District continues to monitor air quality conditions as reported and forecasted by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD), and  AirNow from the National Weather Service.

Due to the current conditions, we will keep Mt. Diablo Unified facilities closed on Friday, October 13 in the interest of the health and safety of our students, staff, and visitors.  Athletic events and contests will remain canceled until next week.

We are currently planning to reopen on Monday, October 16, with strict guidelines limiting outside activities. Campuses will be checked over the weekend, and we will send district staff to schools for extra support Monday.  We will continue to monitor air quality and health advisories and warnings from these agencies and update you as conditions change.

Resources available for you to directly monitor air quality conditions include:

Dear Mt. Diablo Unified Families,

As a result of the poor air quality and the ongoing wildfires, all schools in Mt. Diablo Unified School District will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, October 12th. Your child’s safety was the primary factor leading to this decision. Currently, it is being reported that only three percent of the fires have been contained, and we expect that air quality will be even more severe tomorrow.

Pending containment of the fires, we ask that you make a short term plan for your children should we need to close on Friday. We will be in contact with you as soon as possible should that be necessary. Updates will continue to be posted on the district website.
